Shorinji Kempo in Portugal began toward the end of 1975, brought in by Japanese Masters sent from Japan by WSKO. Up to 1981, these Masters travelled back and forth between Portugal and Japan, taking turns in teaching and passing on the teachings of Kaiso So Doshin Sensei to the Portuguese Kenshi. This year, also as a way to honor these Masters and thank them for their efforts, we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Shorinji Kempo in Portugal (1975-2015).
Portugal has hosted several International Study Sessions in the past. The most notable was, perhaps, the European Study Session back in 2004, considered a great success by many European and Japanese guests. As the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Shorinji Kempo approached, the Portuguese Shorinji Kempo Federation (FPSK) felt that it was the right time to apply for the organization of the two most important Shorinji Kempo events in Europe: the Taikai/European Championships and the European Study Session. In 2011 FPSK submitted the Portuguese application to WSKO, in the person of Ms. Yuuki So, President and global leader of Shorinji Kempo, and Sensei Hiroshi Aosaka, Technical Director for Europe.
The time has come for Shorinji Kempo in Portugal, through its devoted Kenshi, both women and men, children and young people, to show all your love and devotion for the art created by Kaiso almost 70 years ago, and show the world what they are capable of. We want to organize a Commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of Shorinji Kempo in Portugal that can endure in your memory for many years. That is what this volunteer team works with dedication and commitment to achieve.
